KCR's refurbished EMU

 

 

 

KCRC East Rail has experienced in rapid increase on number of passengers travelling on its  system. This led to the installation of Automatic Train Protection system in 1996 and refurbishment of their fleet of 351 coaches in order to cope with the demand. The refurbishment was taken place between 1997 and 1999. This resulted 15% more passenger space. Note E44 (cars 144-244-444) was the only unit that did not go through refurbishment.

The following improvements were made:

    Specifications:

    improvement on interior decoration
    upgrade on lighting and air-conditioning system
    removal of all gangway doors (except in first class)
    replacement of some traction and all door equipments
    conversion to thyristor control
    re-styling of the front cabs to become more streamlined
    two pairs of doors have been added on standard class cars
    installation of facilities for the disabled
