SS7 (Shao Shan 7) Electric Locomotives

Developed in 1992 by Datong Works. Their design originate from the 6K locomotives (imported from Japan) and use the special Bo-Bo-Bo axle arrangement. The centre bogie allows around 20 cm of horizontal movement. So they can pass curvy tracks in hilly areas. The only exception is in SS7E in that they use Co-Co axle arrangement. Their high power enable them to climb up steep slopes. Until Dec 2003, SS7 are located at Kunming Depot and are working in Nankun Line (Nanning-Kunming). SS7C are located at Kunming, Chongqing, Liuliping and Xiangfan (Hubei Province). They are used in hauling passenger trains in hilly areas. The possibility of hauling freight trains is under investigation. 50 SS7D are made and they are all located at Xi'an Depot, hauling in the LongHai Line (Zhengzhou-Baoji section). Around 50 SS7E are made. Half of them are located at Xi'an Depot for hauling trains from Zhengzhou to Baoji. Another half are located at Lanzhou Depot for hauling trains from Lanzhou to Tianshui. Specifications are shown as follows:
