DF
8 was developed in 1984 by Qishuyan Locomotive Work near Shanghai. It
is used in mainline freight services in Central and Northern China (such
as Wuhan). The production has stopped now.
DF 8B was developed in 1997 by Qishuyan Locomitive Work (with dark blue
colour and numbered 0xxx). After a few years, Ziyang Diesel Locomotive
Work also produces DF8B (with pale blue color and numbered 5xxx). Like,
DF8, it is used in mainline freight services in Central, Northern and
North-east China. It uses the same engine as DF11 but is different from
DF11 in the gear ratio.
