DF7 0111 Shunting at Zhengzhou Station - Apr, 2000 photoed by Rickly Wong The first DF7 was developed at "February 7" Locomotive Work. Like DF 5, it is a shunting locomotive and is found elsewhere in freight and passenger stations. The earliest DF7 uses 12V240ZJ diesel engine. It is has a short appearance and the two sides of the driving cabinet has windows at the roofs. The number is DF7-0xxx. DF7B has a higher power than DF7 and has sockets for connecting control cables between two DF7B locomotives. It can brake by electrical resistance. So there are cooling fans at the two sides of the locomotive. At the longer end of locomotive, there is a corridor for driver to walk through then the DF7 become double-headed. The number is DF7-3xxx or DF7-6xxx. DF7C is a modified type of shunting locomotive from DF7. Its power is greater than DF7 (similar to DF7B). The number is DF7-5xxx and DF7C-5xxx DF7D is designed for hauling mainline trains at cold areas and mountainous areas. The number is DF7D-0xxx belongs to Mawei Depot, Guizhou Province. These DF7Ds work in pairs for hauling trains between Guiding and Jingchengjiang at high slopes and small radius of curvature. DF7D-3xxx is designed for cold areas and is working in north-east China. DF7Ds can have on or two driving cabinet and they are painted in orange or dark green colour. Its appearance is like the "Beijing" locomotive. DF7E is a heavy-duty shunting locomotive and is believed to be using water cooling systems for the traction motors. It has 25t axle weight and increased power. From the technical data, it is using 16 valves engine. Only two are made, numbered DF7E-0001 and 0002, and both belong to Zhengzhou North Depot for shunting. DF7F is the highest power shunting locomotive with number DF7F-0001. DF7C3 uses standardised driving cabinet and has a different colour from DF7. DF7G is an AC traction shunting locomitive.
