DF1/DF3

DF / DF3

First built in 1964 by Dalian Works. Based on Russian TE3 series, this is the first mainline diesel locomotive built by the Chinese. DF series also known as JuLong (Giant Dragon) in the 60s. There is no apparent difference between DF1 and DF3 apart from different gear ratio. DF3 were re-geared in late 1980s to early 1990s and it can say that all DF3 were gone now. According to some Chinese publication, a total of 683 units (up to 1974) and 226 units were produced as DF1 and DF3 respectively.
